SUMMER SHIRT & HIGH WAISTS

Shirt - Charity Shop, Trousers - Charity Shop, Clutch - New Look, Heels - Office
Eeeesh over exposed. I've just worked out I can go beyond the auto settings on my camera and got a tad carried away.. I kind of liked this outfit though so I didn't want it to go to waste. Plus, my hair was having an 'alright-ish' day. You know when you try and do it so it looks super tousled and casual and generally it just comes out like I've been dragged through a bush. Never great. Here it didn't turn out too bad - although I did end up shoving it in a ponytail anyway.. It was too hot! Definitely a much happier bunny now it feels a little more like spring.

So.. Outfit stuffs. Without realising it, I've not blogged much about usual sort of OOTD thing for a while and I do miss the fashion posts. I wore this outfit at the weekend for a quick trip to town.. It's so nice to finally dress a little more feminine now it's warming up. High waist, cropped shirt, happy Lydia. During winter I end up feeling less than girly, layered up in big chunky clothing that I could do with a sign saying 'BTW - there is a female with boobs underneath all this this'. Ha.

PERFECTLY UNDONE BEACHY WAVES WITH TRESEMMÉ

So as I mentioned last week, I recently had the chance to work with TRESemme on a project for their new Perfectly Undone range.. And here is the final result! What do you think? The shots were all inspired by iconic historical paintings, featuring some amazingly beautiful hairstyles. The look here is a bit of a modern day update, some beach ready waves and braided details. Love!

To get this style we started by washing my hair with the Perfectly Undone Shampoo and Conditioner, before using the sea foam to help with those relaxed, soft looking waves (you can check out all the products here). You know I love braids, so those fishtail plaits were the perfect addition. A bit of Ultra-Brushable Hairspray and I was good to go with some super swishy locks.

It’s a look that’s really easy to recreate at home, so I’ve just uploaded how I came up with something similar on my channel. I used the same products from the shoot, this time switching it up with Dutch braids to keep my hair out of my face. I love that kind of style that looks pretty without being too ‘done’.. If you have a go at it let me know!

TRESemmé also have a really good 'how to' video here that's well worth a watch!

15 THINGS I'M NOT READY TO ACCEPT AS AN ADULT

Granted, I am only 23.. A mere newbie to the art of being a grown up. Even so, I am no longer relishing studentdom or living off ma & pa. I'm a proper, real life adult. ICK. Indeed, there are lots of plus sides to being a fully fledged grown up person.. But there are also the not so great parts. Here are the 'adult thaaangs' I'm not quite yet okay with..

Ringing up for stuff.

I’ve got to do all this stuff by myself? The days when my mum would sort out all phone call dramz were the good ones. Ringing up the doctors to deal with power crazed receptionists? Rather not.

How quick everything goes.

It’s May next week. I rest my case.

Lacking money when you thought you’d have money.

I generally thought earning money meant having money. LOL. How foolish.. Girl gotta pay bills when she’d rather spend it on shoes and lipstick.

House stuff. Any house stuff. Don’t get it.

I feel like I should know about mortgages and all that shenanigans when I have no bloody idea. Thankfully, I can just about afford a brick when it comes to buying a house. For now, I can continue singing ‘lalalala’ and pretending I haven’t got to eventually do all that thaaang.

Working.

You mean.. this is actually what I do for the rest of my life? Like every day, for 40 plus years? No school holidays or anything? I’m not signing myself up for the next episode of Benefits Britain.. I do love working.. but that whole moment of ‘right, this is life now’ is a bit of culture shock.

Accepting the fact that you can no longer use the last of the teenage hormones as an excuse for being awful.

THIS IS SO NOT FAIR. Kevin and Perry style. Oh how I took for granted the excuse of being a youth and totes emosh.

Not only getting spots but also getting wrinkles. Brilliant.

Apparently it ain’t a case of out with one and in with another.. It’s & an oily t-zone along the way. Fan-freaking-tastic.

The fact your parents have a way better social life than you do.

That moment I'm picking your ‘rents up from town at gone 11pm after I've had an evening sat watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians reruns and eating bread. UGH.

The amount of money you spend on food.

For me, the older I get, the more money I spend on food. Who knew £30 on posh nosh from M&S felt so good?

Considering if you’re going to still be awake for that 9pm TV show you want to watch.

Falling asleep at 8.30pm is actually a thing.

Having no one around to tell you to not eat pizza 3 days in a row.

Remember when sweets were the odd treat & going to McDonalds was an incentive for not being a horror child? The realisation at a certain age when you can eat whatever the hell is a big novelty, and probably why I end up averaging three packets of crisps a day.

Not yet becoming as sassy as Beyoncé.

Yeah, 23 year old me loves me a lot more than the 17 year old version did, but I did imagine by my 20s I’d have upped my sassy queen levels more. Less Bridget Jones moments if possible, and more of the Queen Bey vibes.

Accepting that it’s unlikely you’ll ever be an astronaut or a professional surfboarder or a hip hop star.

It’s not like I’ve ever fancied having a bash at any of those things, but it’s kind of safe to say I’m beyond the point of deciding I’m up for it anyway. I had this feeling after leaving uni - while nothing was/is set out for certain, I am  on a route that isn’t likely to include walking on the moon or being Kanye’s BFF.

Wondering why people in clubs look like they’re freshly hatched from the womb.

Who are these infants? Where did they come from? In my mind anyone born post mid 90s should be reading Jacqueline Wilson books not drinking quad vods on an all nighter.

Having to know what you’re supposed to be doing with your life.

I’m sorry? Just no.

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH TRESEMMÉ

Some of you may have seen on Twitter that a week or so ago I had a quick trip to London to get involved in a project with TRESemmé for their new Perfectly Undone range. Ohhh it was lovely. One of the hottest days of the year so far (London is positively tropical compared to the north), a beyond beautiful location and dreamy hair dos.

I'm so excited to see the final pictures - the team on the day put in so much effort to get everything perfect (I always find that behind the scenes stuff way more fascinating when compared with the posing parts). Next week I'll be uploading a look playing about with some of the products and the final picture, so keep an eye out for that!

WARM TONED MAKEUP RUN THROUGH

*All details in video below

Yikes. I uploaded this warm toned makeup look a couple of days ago on YouTube and while I was at it, I thought it'd be a good time to do this 'before and after' shot. As nice as it would be, none of us wake up with the perfect smokey eye or brows preened within an inch of their life. There are things to help out along the way (makeup, good lighting, a camera that doesn't betray you, y'know?) but I'm definitely not kidding myself that the Instagram selfie is a complete reality of my face - I have spots, blotchy parts, an oily t-zone and lips that aren't at all symmetrical, but mehhh!

Anyway, the video below goes through the whole process. Thank the lord for cosmetics & Instagram filters right?!

COACHELLA INSPIRED BRAIDS

Hair by The Blow, Hair Rings - Regal Rose

So another trip to The Blow means extra Rapunzel like hair. UGH I wish my hair could look as 'done' all the time - I'm forever just rushing to get a brush through it! This look was all those festival/Coachella vibes combined.. I've spent the last couple of weekends (like most of us) wishing I was there, so at least I can get a teeny bit involved with some boho hair do. Mehhh.. Maybe one year I'll go!

The ponytail is all braided and fuzzed up - I love that kind of dishevelled but not dishevelled with purpose look. Ick that sounds pretentious, but I think you'll know what I'm getting at. I've  also got the Regal Rose Hair Rings threaded through which I'm newly obsessed with. Aren't they so pretty for plaits?! If you are off to a festival this year you need some. I love that it's an extension on my usual go-to jewellery.

GETTING A CAREER OUT OF BLOGGING

And by this, I don't actually mean a career in blogging. Not everyone blogs because they want to be a blogger. Yeah, it would be nice and if that did eventually happen then that'd be great - but for me it's not the focus. I also like sitting here waffling on about stuff, even if people aren't that interested in what me & my cats have been up to.

Having said that, one of my main reasons for starting a blog was to help out careersy wise.. More in a general sense. I do think that in whatever shape or form, blogging is really useful for help when getting on the career ladder. I think it shows initiative & enthusiasm for a start! The points below aren't so much tips, more just the things I've found that helped me out along the way.

Network.

Biggie. You never know who you might meet with blogging, and they do say it's not what you know, it's who you know. Bleeeh.. Maybe it's partly true. Even if you're not keen on being the next blogging mega star, getting out there with the relevant folk is a great way to get yourself/out there. Events and blogging meet ups are always going for doing the networking thaaang.

Create your online portfolio.

I've found that it's been really useful having my blog there as a bit of a portfolio of work. It's a way you can show off plenty of your skills and have it on hand for employers. You can also use it for emphasising your experience - gone on about being amazing at HTML on your CV? Use your blog as the proof.

Get your social accounts in check.

Uhhh huh. Ain't no time for employers catching those god awful drunken photos on Faceyb. While you can keep those bits private (Praise. The. Lord.), you might as well show off the social accounts that you're proud of. For me working in social media this is probably most relevant, but I always think it's good to showcase your blog's social accounts for your more 'professional' side.. Even if that does include tweeting about Big Brother & annoying Daily Mail stories (that would be me).

Big it up on that CV.

I think a lot of us have that 'do I put it on my CV..?!' moment. I always thought it sounded a little bit dweeby and that employers wouldn't be interested. Today my CV is jam packed with blog related stuff. If you've put all that work in and it's brought some good results then why not talk about it?! I always state my biggest blogging achievements and the experience that I've gained from it. In my experience most of the interviewers have been really keen to talk about it.. Even if they really aren't that sure what blogging actually is.

Keep building on your confidence.

I was a major wimp before I started blogging, and while I doubt I'll ever love myself like Kanye loves Kanye (who does?), I am now a whole lot more confident. It's always nice to work on finding something that you're good at - whether it's taking amazing pictures or being faultless when it comes to spelling (definitely not me). There are also lots of lovely people out there in the blogging world that are really supportive and can pick you up when you're having a confidence dip.

Annnd that's what has helped me so far. I guess it does depend on what you're going into, but I think everyone gains a bit of something from it!

FINDING BLUSH AGAIN

MAC Blush in Happy Together, Mocha & Prism, Illamasqua Cream Blush (think this colour may have been discontinued - closest is probably 'Laid')

I say finding blush again due to the fact I probably haven't used the stuff for a good two years. It could be the fear of having the Bridget Jones moment, but I think it's more down to the fact I'd found bronzer. To me, bronzer is blush (I'm aware I'm quite probably a beauty blogger's nightmare).. But I always found a  bronzed up glow a lot easier to wear than flushed cheeks.

Since forcing myself to get back into makeup (I was definitely stuck in a cosmetics rut) I have discovered that blush isn't this scary, pinky hued thing that is about to give my a flushed Father Christmas esq face. I've been keeping it light and sticking mostly to the more neutral tones as a bit of a safety blanket, but I think blush is my next 'thing'.. Y'know, when you suddenly become obsessed with lipsticks or the perfect highlight and feel like you need to try every possible option. My favourite at the minute is MAC Prism (the less pinky shade without the highlight), mostly because it's a dream with nude lippies. Plus it brings my attempts at contouring a little more 'to life'.. I love bringing out my cheekbones but there is a tendency for me to go a bit Corpse Bride without some colour mixed in there.

GREIGE

Sunglasses - Primark, Coat - H&M, Top - Primark, Trousers - ZARA, Boots - Forever 21

I guess what I'm wearing here is a pretty similar look to the last outfit I wore with this coat, but I liked that whole grey and beige mix. This time round the grey part of what I'm wearing is purely comfort. Without that bit of heel on my boots and the coat to smarten things up it does kind of look like lounge wear, but it was a Sunday and slouchy clothing called!

I've also got to that mid season awkwardness where knowing how to dress weather appropriate has completely gone out the window. I'm still stuck in chunky scarves and knitwear even though it's probably time for a Spring update. Lydia - get yourself in a floral dress gurrrrl!!

SIDE BRAID PONYTAIL TUTORIAL

Yup, the braid obsession continues. While I've had a bit of time off I've been using it as an excuse to actually make my hair look half decent - it's easy for me to just get into that straight/standard ponytail rut. This one I tried out was a bit of a fishtail/updo thingymabobby.. It really is pretty easy once you've mastered the fishtail braid part of it. I don't really wear my hair up as an option for anything other than a bad hair day but I've loved wearing it like this (I really need to move on and work out how to do something else..).

The 'tutorial' bit is now on my YouTube.. I use tutorial very loosely - I generally make it up as I go along and it's the kind of thing that's already been done a million and one times, but quite a few people asked to see how I'd done it. Right, I'm off.. Roast dins calls!

THE LAST OF THE SNUGGLY JUMPERS

Jumper - Boohoo, Jeans - ZARA, Nail Varnish - Barry M, Converse - USC

After a completely lovely, sunshine week off work (all be it very quick), I am today back in something a little cosier. Still no where near as wrapped up as a few weeks ago, but it's nice to still find the extra snuggle factor in snuggly jumper. I'm not wearing anything too schmancy here - Converse, baggy jeans and an even baggier jumper.. But I guess it was more about the details. Roll neck, silver nails (I'm obsessed with this polish - it dries really quick and goes pretty well with most of my wardrobe favourites) and hair tucked in. I'd never go for the chop but I do like being able to fake a bob somewhat..

Right, I'm keeping it short as I've got loads of blogging/YouTube bits to get on with before I can settle down for a takeaway evening (the best sort of evening) - it turns out that I am in fact less organised when I'm off work. I've been filming a few bits that I want to get uploaded & I've also got a couple of more chatty posts coming up soon.. Ever the excuse to ramble on!

LONDON DAY OUT

It's not very often I get to go to London (I've been a whole three times in my life..), but this bank holiday I actually managed to get down and enjoy it - the times I have been previously have always been a manic rush round and I've ended up finding it all a bit busy and chaotic rather than as nice as it really is. We were off to do the whole touristy thing.. Family trip to The Shard, Oxford Street for a wander & getting completely confused on the tube. Thankfully we made it to everywhere we'd planned, if a little flustered!

The Shard really is lovely to go and have a good look at the city. I know if you're local it’s perhaps not that exciting, but it’s something completely different to the sights we’ve got up north.. Nor do I really think Sheffield would be quite so impressive from that height.

One of my favourite bits of out little trip naturally revolved around food. Laaandan grub is SO good. Up here we got a Taco Bell and that was one of the most exciting things to happen this century. We ended up at Borough Market for lunch and that was like my dream. Can I please just spend my life there working my way through the stalls?

Outfit details all here!

DAY & NIGHT OUTFITS

*All outfit details in video below

Just a little update as this video has just gone up on my channel - if you follow me on Twitter you might have seen that I popped to London (I say pop.. by 'pop' I mean a three hour car journey each way) for a little visit. We were just heading down to see my brother, but I managed to get a few snaps/clips of my outfits as I was packing. I mainly wanted to get this on here because of that grey set from H&M. Probably my favourite thing in my wardrobe right now.. It's just one of those things that looks 'put together' without involving a whole load of thinking about what to wear. Anyhoo, all the extra details are in the vid below!
